Chiropractic at The Spine and Health Center of Montvale

Chiropractic when defined means ‘done by hand’. It is grounded in the principle that the body can heal itself when the skeletal system is correctly aligned and the nervous system is functioning properly. To achieve this, the practitioner uses his or her hands or an adjusting tool to perform specific manipulations of the vertebrae and skeletal system. When these bones of the spine are not correctly articulated, resulting in a condition known as subluxation, the theory is that nerve transmission is disrupted and causes pain in the back, as well as other areas of the body.

Chiropractic care is one of the most popular alternative therapies currently available. It is now a mainstream treatment as opposed to complementary medicine. Chiropractic treatment is covered by most insurance plans. It remains the top treatment for acute pain and problems of the spine, including the back, neck and all extremities (according to consumer reports 2009) chiropractic is a complementary and alternative medicine health care profession that focuses on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and their effects on the nervous system and general health, with special emphasis on the spine.  It emphasizes manual therapy including spinal manipulation and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation, and includes exercises and health and lifestyle counseling.

Nerves also allow the body to react when injury occurs by producing pain. When nerves of pain are irritated, you experience pain.  When nerves of function are irritated, there is no pain; however you lose some, if not all, the bodily functions controlled by those nerves. Almost all nerves travel from the brain through the spine to reach every organ, gland, and tissue in your body.  When the spine, through trauma, injury, falls, poor posture, and muscle weakness, falls out of alignment, your spinal columns can cause pressure or irritation to the delicate nerves that exit between them. Our goal is to help our patients break free of these symptoms with which they suffer, but even more importantly, to help them avoid the cause of those problems.  Symptomatic treatment that leaves the cause of the problem unresolved is incomplete because the source of the problem can cause future complications.
